    This course concludes the capstone requirements and guides students in creating a professional ePortfolio that showcases their educational achievements, leadership development, personal growth, communication skills, and career interests. To develop a comprehensive ePortfolio, students will need to revise and curate work from previous courses, reflect on the knowledge and skills gained throughout the program, and articulate their professional goals and values as they prepare for entry into the workforce, graduate studies, or other post-graduation pursuits. Additional requirements will include revisions of a resume, cover letter, leadership philosophy statement, identifying professional references and networks, and mock interviews.     This course will introduce students to the benefits of participating in the amazing outdoor recreation possibilities available around SUU. Class will provide students with knowledge and skills in a variety of outdoor pursuits, as well as safety and ethical considerations, in order to enhance the outdoor recreation experience.     This course is designed to offer students the foundational knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to efficiently backpack in wilderness settings on their own. The course will cover navigation, trip planning and logistics, outdoor living skills, environmental integration, nutrition and ration planning, equipment selection, and risk management. There is a required overnight trip for the course that will involve carrying a heavy backpack over rough terrain for an extended time in potentially adverse weather conditions.     Canyoneering II builds upon the knowledge and skills developed in Canyoneering I. Topics include rope ascending, anchor building, sequencing, and passing knots.     The Basic Outdoor Leadership Training (BOLT) Program is an SUU Outdoors program that creates opportunities for the SUU community to reach leadership and developmental goals for students, faculty, staff, and organizations. Students enrolled in the course will learn and develop outdoor recreation-based leadership training focused in areas related to outdoor education theory, leadership in the outdoors, group management, and risk management. Students will develop these skills along with the technical skills needed to lead backpacking trips for SUU students. The class will culminate with a 4-day backpacking trip planned and carried out by students with the mentorship of the instructor.     This is a beginning to intermediate level mountain biking class focused on developing awareness. No mountain biking experience is needed; however, students should already know how to ride a bike and must have a properly functioning mountain bike and biking-specific helmet available for the duration of the course. The goal of the class is to become more effective mountain bikers through rides, skill building, drills, basic maintenance, and more.     Students will learn about the principles of Leave No Trace and techniques for disseminating these low-impact skills through classroom sessions as well as a required outdoor trip that will take place on a weekend. The course prepares students to teach the Leave No Trace curriculum in a variety of settings, such as schools, camps, parks, wilderness, and front country areas.
